The 124270 is the Explorer that collectors actually asked for. When Rolex brought it back to 36mm, enthusiasts paid attention the proportions are exactly right, the Maxi case wears beautifully, and without a date window cluttering the dial, the whole thing just looks resolved in a way that some of the brand’s more feature-heavy references don’t.

Inside is the Calibre 3230, Rolex’s current-generation movement with a Chronergy escapement and 70 hours of power reserve. It’s one of the most accurate movements Rolex has ever put in a sport watch, certified to plus or minus two seconds per day after casing. For a watch this understated on the outside, it punches hard under the hood.

Full-set examples with dated warranty cards hold their value significantly better than watch-only or incomplete examples. This is the version worth buying and the version worth holding.
