Introduced in 1971 for cave explorers and polar adventurers who needed to distinguish day from night in environments where natural light is absent, the Explorer II is a 42mm Oystersteel professional tool watch measuring 13mm in thickness. The matte black dial presents applied Chromalight luminescent baton-style hour markers and Mercedes hands, with a bold orange 24-hour hand sweeping continuously around the dial — pointing to the fixed 24-hour graduated bezel to indicate day or night at a glance, and simultaneously functioning as a second time zone reference. A date window with Cyclops magnification sits at 3 o’clock. The solid Oyster case with screw-down Triplock crown provides water resistance to 100 meters.
