The Oris “Source of Life” is named for the river Rhine — running from the Swiss Alps to the North Sea. The river passes by Hölstein, where Oris maintains its headquarters. A small feeder branch is named “Orisbach”, where the ORIS brand gets its name.
This piece had a limited run of 2,343 pieces. These days the watch is sought after by many collectors who prize the tungsten bezel insert, the robust 43.5mm case, and the rich yet not-too-saturated blue dial, keeping in line with its fluvial theme.
Wearing this watch is a treat, too. The curved lugs help to rein the larger case size in for the smaller wrist, and the height is standard for most divers, meaning no extra clunkiness. The tungsten bezel insert is pretty to look at in contrast with the richness of the sunbrushed dial. Another fun feature of this watch is the integrated date indicator, which appears as a smaller concentric circle motif, which snaps around a wheel to illuminate the corresponding date marker.
